Common Quicken errors and how to fix them

When using Quicken, you experience some coding error messages without additional details. This article should explain some of these errors.

Quicken web connect errors OL-220-A, OL-220-B, OL-221

Quicken errors for direct transactions download

These errors are related to the Web Connect download. If the error happens, try to reconnect direct download:

  • Check if your Quicken version is discontinued (or "reached sunset") and upgrade it first (or download transactions as a file and use the ProperConvert app and convert to QIF format and import it)
  • Make a backup for your Quicken file
  • Disable online services for the account you receive an error
  • Connect back to your bank

Quicken errors related to QFX (web connect) file imports

This error is related to a Web Connect downloaded (QFX)file. If the error happens, follow these steps:

  • if Quicken is older than three years, use the [ProperConvert] app to convert your file to a QIF format (make sure to select the QIF target matching your Quicken version)
  • A QFX file you downloaded is not good for Quicken. Use the [ProperConvert] app to convert to "correct" QFX with allowed INTU.BID value and expected for Quicken QFX variant, also consider converting to the QIF format as well

Error during Quicken updates

Quicken for Windows may give an error during the update:

C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Quicken\INET\COMMON\Patch\Update\patchw32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

if this happens, download the manual update and install it over the existing version (sorry, you have to google for "manual quicken update").

Quicken does not allow you to import QIF data to checking or savings accounts

Quicken 2017 and earlier for PC/Windows imports 'correct' or 'importable' QIF files directly into bank or credit card accounts. Your Quicken must be Deluxe or higher edition. Quicken Starter edition does not import QIF files directly into bank or credit card accounts.
